Poland. Wrocław. Diamond finale of the Singing Europe – Aleksandra Kurzak and Roberto Alagna

On a warm August Saturday evening, the music lovers not only from Poland, but also from around the world gathered in the Concert Hall of the National Forum of Music in Wrocław. All of them have waited for a long time for the performance of their favourite stars from the greatest opera stages – Aleksandra Kurzak and Roberto Alagna, therefore the great enthusiasm was felt even at the entrance to the building.  

By involving in the „Singing Europe” project approx. 150 people from 5 choirs from Poland and one choir from Serbia (bravo for the idea), the effect of two-layer concert was achieved – two concerts in one. For me personally, it was a great joy to hear in such amazing acoustics the sound and power of human voice not only in G. Bizet’s „Les voici! Voici la quadrille des Toreros” from „Carmen”, but also in „Humming Chorus” from Madame Butterfly, which was so convincingly sung and performed that almost the entire hall was under the charm of this amazing murmurando… thoughts flowing in from the first moments gave way to a blissful tranquillity… and then the loud and much deserved applause for the choir singers, orchestra and conductor. And when it seemed that nothing could be sung better, we heard the sound of G. Verdi’s „Va pensiero” from „Nabucco”… the audience was speechless, subjected itself to music and words, which lightly drifted across the entire hall and provided long sounds until the last breath… „It was the most beautiful Va pensiero that I’ve ever heard in my entire life“, said the older man, music lover, regular visitor of concert halls, who sat next to me. And he repeated those words when he was leaving after the concert, Bravo!
The culmination of the performance of choirs, which were combined in one vocal strength, consisted of two of my personal favourite pieces from G. Verdi’s „La Traviata“, „Noi siamo Zingarelle“ and „Di Madride noi siamo mattadori.“
There was a great strength and power, and I don’t have to add anything else.

Huge applause for Mrs. Agnieszka Franków – Żelazny – artistic coordinator of this project, and for all conductors preparing the individual choirs.

Overture from Ch. Gounoda’s opera „Romeo and Juliet“ introduced us to the idea of this concert, which we participated in and which was entirely led by maestro Bassem Akiki, who introduced  to the more and more prestigious stage the stars of the evening – Aleksandra Kurzak and Roberto Alagna.

Then, the subsequent musical feast began. In a remarkable performance, we heard arias and duets from the following operas: „Faust“, „Romeo and Juliet“, „Othello“, „Pagliacci“, „Traviata “ and aria performed by Roberto Alagna from the opera „Tosca“, „E lucevan le stelle“ has confirmed our belief that there’s only one real Roberto Alagna … Fortunately, the tenor was quickly revived after this aria and by taking a sip of „plum“ love potion, he enchanted not only Aleksandra Kurzak, who’s partnering him on stage and in life, but also the entire audience, which had amazing fun with them. Such charm coming from the personality, voice and quality of each sound can be experienced only in the presence of artists with the big A.

It was great that the entire really lovely evening was highlighted by the encores, which seemed to be performed with great ease, as well as the entire concert, by the orchestra of NFM Wrocław Philharmonic, which played under the baton of Bassem Akiki. I think that I don’t have to convince anyone about the scale of difficulty of this concert and the entire undertaking. This magnificent concert has already gone down to history. We will always remember it.

W ciepły sierpniowy sobotni wieczór w Sali koncertowej Narodowego Forum Muzyki we Wrocławiu zgromadzili się melomani  nie tylko z Polski, ale także ze świata.  Wszyscy od dawna wyczekiwali występu swoich ulubionych gwiazd z największych scen operowych – Aleksandry Kurzak oraz Roberto Alagna, więc wielki entuzjazm czuć było już przed wejściem do budynku.  
Poprzez zaangażowanie do projektu Singing Europe ok. 150 osób z 5 chórów z Polski oraz jednego chóru z Serbii (brawo za pomysł) uzyskano efekt koncertu dwupłaszczyznowego – dwóch koncertów w jednym. Dla  mnie osobiście ogromną radością było usłyszeć w tak fantastycznej akustyce brzmienie i siłę ludzkiego głosu nie tylko w „Les voici! Voici la quadrille des Toreros” G. Bizeta z „Carmen” , ale „Humming Chorus” z Madame Butterfly było tak przekonująco zaśpiewane i zrealizowane, że chyba prawie cała sala uległa urokowi tego wspaniałego murmurando …  napływające myśli z pierwszych chwil ustąpiły miejsca błogiemu spokojowi … a potem tylko gromkie bardzo zasłużone brawa dla chórzystów, orkiestry i dyrygenta.  I kiedy wydawało się, że już nic  nie można zaśpiewać lepiej rozległo się „Va pensiero” G. Verdiego z „Nabucco” … widownia zaniemówiła, poddała się i muzyce i słowom, które tak lekko niosły się po całej sali, by długo wybrzmiewać  do ostatniego oddechu… „To było najpiększniejsze Va pensiero, jakie słyszałem w życiu”  powiedział siedzący obok mnie starszy pan, meloman, stały bywalec sal i koncertowych.  I powtórzył te słowa wychodząc  po koncercie. Brawo!

Zwieńczeniem występu połączonych chórów w jedną wokalną siłę były dwa moje osobiście ulubione utwory z „Traviaty” G. Verdiego „Noi siamo zingarelle” oraz „Di Madride noi siamo mattadori.”
Była siła i była moc, nic więcej dodawać nie trzeba.

Ogromne brawa dla pani Agnieszki Franków – Żelazny – koordynatora artystycznego tego przedsięwzięcia, oraz dla wszystkich dyrygentów przygotowujących poszczególne chóry.
Uwertura z opery „Romeo i Julia”  Ch. Gounoda wprowadziła nas w ideę tego koncertu, którego byliśmy udziałem, a który poprowadził  w całości maestro Bassem Akiki i który wprowadził na coraz bardziej prestiżową scenę gwiazdy wieczoru – Aleksandrę Kurzak oraz Roberto Alagna.

I zaczęła się dalsza muzyczna uczta.  Usłyszeliśmy w niebanalnym wykonaniu arie i duety z oper „Faust”, „Romeo i Julia”, Otello”, „Pajace”, „Traviata”, a zaserwowana przez Roberto Alagna aria z opery „Tosca”  „E lucevan le stelle” , utwierdziła nas tylko  w przekonaniu, że Roberto Alagna jest naprawdę tylko jeden… Na szczęście tenor szybko po tej arii ożył  i wypijając łyk „śliwkowego” napoju miłosnego oczarował nie tylko partnerującą mu i na scenie i w życiu Aleksandrę Kurzak,   ale także i całą publiczność, która doskonale bawiła się razem z nimi.  Ale tak potrafią czarować i osobowością, i głosem, i jakością wykonania każdego dźwięku  tylko artyści przez duże A.

Wspaniale,  że cały naprawdę uroczy wieczór podkreśliły bisy, które wydawało się, że z ogromną łatwością, jak i cały koncert wykonała precyzyjnie grająca pod batutą Bassema Akiki orkiestra Filharmonia Wrocławska NFM.  Myślę, że o skali trudności tego koncertu i całego przedsięwzięcia nie trzeba chyba nikogo przekonywać. Ten wspaniały koncert przeszedł już do historii. Zawsze będziemy go pamiętać.
