While we were waiting for the cash registers to open the day before the New Year’s concert in Vienna, maestro Christian Thielemann graced us with a very warm smile  as he was passing. An extremely pleasant experience.

The concert we heard the day later in the Golden Hall showed what the conductor’s mysterious smile was hiding.

A tremendous amount of warmth, romance, subtlety and refinement resounded in „Viennese sweets“  in Johann Strauß’s waltz ,which rippled through the hall after the performance of Karl Komzák’s march – „Archduke Albrecht-Marsch“. The march disciplined us for a moment by reminding us how important world peace is.

„Figaro – Polka“ by Johann Strauß ,in a playful manner flirted with the audience,  press and let the orchestra shine.

The annual possibility to hear live waltzes, polkas, to immerse yourself right there in the rhythms, the sounds performed by one of the world’s best orchestras, fills us with energy for each day of the new year.

Discovering the conductor’s fantasies in each successive piece opens up a sea of imagination.

Waltz „For all the world“ by Joseph Hellmesberger provided the opportunity to sense that maestro Christian Thielemann, is in his element.  It is wonderful to listen to the romantic unveiling of a conductor who, since 2000, he has been the permanent conductor at the Richard  Wagner Music  Festival in Bayreuth.

The New Year’s Concert in Vienna is a treasure trove of composers‘ wealth, and at this concert in this beautiful hall the value of the compositions increases, because only there and at this very concert are they  worth so muchthat we want to pay so much for tickets.  Perhaps in the future they will add compositions by contemporary, currently living composers to their repertoire? Is this possible? Are there any works composed contemporarily that would be able to enrich this unique concert and match those that have worked so well for years making this event so special?

A stay at the Musikverein makes the time stop and draws attention to the beauty of heritage.

The second part of the concert once again made the maestro celebrate this occasion by spreading musical treats, which we savoured more and more with every bite. The conductor’s mysterious smile thus heralded the invitation to a tasting of intricately made pralines with a photo of Christian Thielemann himself on the packaging. Wondrous.

I had the great pleasure of inviting a young violinist from Poland, who is already enjoying her first successes in national and international competitions, Diana Victoria Cel, to the New Year’s concert. Thank you, thank you to the Vienna Philharmonic for the invitations, and thank you to the team handling the marketing of this event for showing me on Facebook as I wait outside the entrance to the Musikverein for the concert, I am already looking forward to this unique event next year.
