When the conductor Bassem Akiki raised his hands and the Second Concerto for cello and symphony orchestra by Paweł Mykietyn began, the audience that gathered in the Concert Hall of the Polish Radio in Warsaw took a breath together with the playing orchestra. The guests were caught by surprise and kept up the hypnotic, regular rhythm along with the musicians to the last sound, only to spring to their feet instantly at the end and express their admiration for the new composition by Paweł Mykietyn, for the virtuosity of Sinfonia Varsovi’s performance, for the artistry of Marcin Zdunik and for the inspiration of the conductor and, above all, the composer.

The unbelievable steady calmness, the melodic smoothness, which was formed out of small individual particles, the festivity beating from this composition and from the playing orchestra, the emotions that seemed to hover over the musicians, focusing attention and captivating senses, made it seem as if the pulsating, regular music of the cello were merely an addition at the beginning, until it was left almost alone, showing how extremely interesting it is and in what ways it affects us; a moment later carrying us away with a wave of beauty of the full sound of the symphony orchestra, which triggered a surge of emotion.

It is beautiful, it is simply beautiful: such a thought came to all of us spontaneously, liberating inner joy, because, after all, we listened to the contemporary composition.

An unbreakable relationship: Mykietyn, Sinfonia Varsovia, Zdunik, Akiki and the Second Concerto for cello and symphony orchestra
